Dare to tell stories usually hidden
Edu-Clowns are a theatre group connected to Blossom Trust; a non profit organisation operating since 1993 for the promotion of art, culture and human development. Blossom Trust operates in the virudhungar district of Tamil Nadu, India. The NGO's main activities are focused towards advocating womens rights, gender equality and empowerment and HIV/AIDS prevention and care; including campaigns for child health and sexual education. All of its services are achieved with the genuine participation of the community and the Edu-Clowns offer an alternative method to educate vulnerable groups.
The Edu-Clowns are known as the "red-nosed" given the actors' painted noses , which symbolise their fury on seeing certain unacceptable situations and lifestyle in society.
Peoples Theatre - By the people, for the people
Over 50 people have trained as EDU CLOWNS since they were formulated in 1986 by Rev. Benjamin Vima, USA. The clowns use a theatre in which people as performers and organisers stage live performance about themselves; their own personal and social problems, their needs and solutions for the sake of their own change. By using the painted mask of a clown the performers can address serious issues in an entertaining and thought provoking manner. The clown is in effect, given dramatic license to tell the stories that are usually hidden.
